FreeAgent Friday - the co-working edition

Posted on 09 November 2012 by Comments (9)

Are you working in a coffee shop right now? While some people thrive in the “cappuccino commerce” atmosphere, others might find the unpredictable atmosphere and loud coffee machine noises distracting. This week, we’re talking about co-working spaces, where freelancers and businesspeople can get some work done in a space designed just for them.

Have you used a co-working space before or are you tempted to start your own? Hit us up in the comments or on Twitter. And have a great weekend!

Over to you...

We're taking on a commercial property (refurb work just starting) which is about 4 times our immediate needs size-wise.

Part of that is scope for expansion, but will also be sharing with a couple of designer/developer businesses. Looking forward to the extra banter and sharing of ideas/resources.

I work two or three days a week out of SocietyM in Glasgow. http://www.citizenm.com/glasgow/societym

{insert Edinburgh vs Glasgow quip here}

It's a brilliant coworking space with a cafe bar, full time concierge staff, funky creative decor, and most importantly the physical and mental space I need to focus.

I run Desk Union, a Scottish based company offering workspace to the microbusiness community. We partner with landlords with extra office space to rent it out to freelancers, entrepreneurs etc.
Currently in Glasgow and will have space in Edinburgh and Stirling soon!

What a coincidence we have just started a coworking space in Worthing (www.worthingcowoking.co.uk) and are using Freeagent to manage the accounts.

As a member of the ISMM (Institute for Sales & Marketing Management) I get gold Regus membership which means I can use any of their business lounges for free - there's laods of them all over the UK.
Also the IoD has great facilities in Pall Mall, the City and several other major towns.

Well done FreeAgent, nice round up. We've got a slightly different approach to coworking - we run Pop-Up cooworking 'jellies' twice a week in London.We've got 7 different venues that we use at the moment and more to come - essentially, we just turn up with some nice snacks and work together!Come along if you are in London. You can find out when they are at www.kindredhq.com/events

North London could really do with a couple of good new spaces.

In the Netherlands, we have Seats2Meet, where you can book meeting rooms but also work as a freelancer (with free lunch): http://www.seats2meet.com/about
The Dutch Government also has various workspaces available in their offices across the country, for civil servants: Deelstoel (SharedChair): http://www.deelstoel.nl/?locale=en
