The search is on

If you’ve ever found yourself hunting for an old pesky expense then you'll love our new search facility for super-speedy data digging.

Search in header

Search lives in the header and you can use it to find: contacts, projects, invoices, expenses, and bank transactions.

Search results

You can search by keyword or even amount. Results are split by category and we display a bunch of other relevant data, like the invoice status or value of a bank transaction, to help you find what you're looking for.

Simple. Functional. Job done.

Time Tracking Timer

Mobile Timer

We've also updated the Time Tracking area of FreeAgent Mobile to include a new start/stop timer for creating timeslips.

It's dead easy - just start the timer when you start a task and leave it running until you've finished. Move around the app, put your phone to sleep (not like the vet does), even log out, and the timer will continue to run until you stop it.

As ever, this will work on iOS, Android or Windows phone device - just log in to your FreeAgent account on your mobile and get tracking time.

Coming soon...

In the next few weeks we'll start rolling out our long-awaited Bank Feeds feature. If you haven't heard (where have you been?) bank feeds allow you to connect your online bank account to FreeAgent in order to automatically import bank transactions on a daily basis.

We'll start enabling this over the next few weeks with a fairly healthy selection of the top UK and US banks, ramping things up over time. It’s probably the biggest single feature we’ve ever worked on, and we’re really excited about finally getting this into the wild.

Until next time,
Roan and the team at FreeAgent

Over to you...

Richard Frost, Wed January 30, 2013
Excellent news. Is the mobile timer functionality going to be ported over to the main app too?
AJ, Wed January 30, 2013
So the big question... which banks?

Cater Allen? Can't imagine that they have the technology somehow...
Lewis Wright, Wed January 30, 2013
I've just gone to all the hassle of switching to Barclays bank because of HSBC's shockingly poor online banking & the fact Barclays already has bank feeds! Oh well, the move was probably for the best anyway.

Wow - search is amazing ... going to enable me to find those pesky domain registration invoices for clients so much easier!
roan, Wed January 30, 2013
Richard: We'd really like to port over the time tracker into the desktop experience at some point. No immediate plans but we'll see how it goes.

AJ: Cater Allen won't be one of the initial banks we'll support but we will be adding more over time.

Lewis: HSBC won't be on that initial list either to switching to Barclays wasn't a bad move.

James: Great to hear!

Where is search on the mobile interface?
Maggie, Thu January 31, 2013
love it! I was quite surprised that you chose to built in time tracking rather than add an integration to Harvest, but it suits me even better.
Hugo, Thu January 31, 2013
Fantastic - been waiting a long time for search and it will make an enormous difference to day-to-day management! Now all you need to add is a "more information" field (the Description field is a little too short to put both the payee and the item, IMHO).
One option is to use Attachment Description with no attachment, but does search search that?
Jenny, Thu January 31, 2013
Any chance that Lloyds will be high on the list? Am I the only one out there that has to reformat their csv file or have I missed a trick somewhere/
Rob, Thu January 31, 2013
@Jenny, I download the qif format from Lloyds and upload that to FreeAgent which works fine.
Jonathan, Thu January 31, 2013
Search is very useful.

The time tracker is also great - I just now need to create a task for being distracted by the internet and other people's blogs!
Mike, Thu January 31, 2013
Timer is a great addition

+1 for Cater Allen bank feed please :-)
Andrew, Fri February 01, 2013
Will Santander be on the bank feed list? I'd also be interested in having reassurance that the facility is secure (not storing passwords on external servers, etc).
Tom C, Fri February 01, 2013
Feeds is great, but via IRIS the Barclays automated feed still isn't available. Will this update fix that?
Lynn J, Fri February 01, 2013
This is the first I've heard of FreeAgent mobile!!

I use Xpensetracker but will look into your app (now I know about it!)
Andrew Clark, Fri February 01, 2013
We don't need this-stop intruding on our work please!

This would be SPAM if it were a website...
Lynne Cowan, Fri February 01, 2013
The search facility is great! We constantly had to export all data to find simple things (but export all data doesn't include Purchase Order numbers for some reason!). This is a whole lot easier and works. Thank you.
Joe, Fri February 01, 2013
This is amazing!!! Can't wait for the bank feeds!
Alex Miller, Fri February 01, 2013
I have to say a HUGE thank you for adding search!!!! This improves freeagent massively for me, so please thank all of the team who worked on this!!

It's great when user suggestions are acted upon. I had felt for a while that most suggestions from the forum were being pushed to the back burner but I'm glad I stuck around to find out that this has been done!
roan, Fri February 01, 2013
Thanks for all the kind words everyone! It's great to hear people are getting value out of search.

Tom: When Bank Feeds go live we will be offering these to accountants as well. So you'll be able to get access to feeds but you'll need to arrange this via your accountant.
Frank, Sat February 02, 2013
@Richard

You can access the mobile version easy via:
https://<your freeagent url>.freeagent.com/mobile/timeslips/new

I found this by telling my desktop Safari to use the iPhone Agent. See this instruction (http://bit.ly/X1z93x) how to activate this.
Matt, Sun February 03, 2013
Like Andrew, I'd like to know if the bank feeds will include Santander? I notice you've replied, but didn't answer this question yet.

Thanks!
roan, Sun February 03, 2013
Matt: Santander isn't on our initial list of banks but as I say we will be growing this over time.
Mark, Mon February 04, 2013
Looking forward to bank feed.

Will there be a list of initial banks being published at all?

You mention there will be more added as time goes on (HSBC was mentioned further up), is there a roadmap for this at all and will that be published?

Be interested to know.

Thanks.
Spencer Blackaller, Mon February 04, 2013
Good work with the search guys very impressive and will improve our functionality massively.

Look forward to getting Santander Bank feeds when they come.
Mark Pitts, Tue February 05, 2013
Good news to the Bank feeds.

Keep the improvements coming.
Colin, Tue February 05, 2013
Great to see you're continuing with improvements - only making the app more and more effective.

I'd like to reiterate Richard Frost's request up top though - can the timer be implemented in the desktop app sooner rather than later? It's a good idea on mobile, but it's quite glitchy - I've tried timing around 5 events so far, and only 2 have gone through without error, either resetting on locked screen or an unresponsive display causing a reset when it catches up.

Or, at least, can you set up a URL to access the mobile website from desktop? Given that it's just a responsive site, it should be possible in a very short time.

Thanks though for the work you're putting in.
Colin

Yay - Feeds!! Yippee. Sure hope HSBC is on the list. Xero charge for their HSBC feed.
Val, Wed February 13, 2013
@Roan

I'd love that time tracking app to be part of the desktop website so please bump it up your list. I'll even send you the javascript for the timer if you like!
Geoffrey, Sat February 16, 2013
The search is really great, it helps me so much on the day to day basis !!
How ever, I don't think it works on "attachement description" which is real shame since this is THE field to add a memo, a note, something to identify more easily that specific bill or banking transaction. Any chance this is on your list ?
Anyway thanks for the hard work and for the search again, it's a major improvment.
