Front end web developer

As part of our highly regarded development team you will be responsible for improving and enhancing our marketing website (freeagent.com) as well as other FreeAgent sites and applications. Working across UX and marketing, you’ll be implementing ongoing design, functionality and usability enhancements which increase conversion, as well as develop new projects to expand our reach.

It’s an excellent opportunity for a talented front end developer who maybe wants to escape agency life, and work for a product focussed company, delivering something that makes a difference to thousands of customers around the world.

Required skills:

It’s a given that you live and breathe the web. If you know that making products the right way takes time, dedication and skill then you’ll fit in here nicely. We’re all about craft, and what we want to see is:

• Hand-crafting HTML and CSS templates that are clean as a whistle and sharp as a thistle
• JavaScript ability that goes far beyond hacking together plugins, but…
• …knowing when and why to use JavaScript libraries, particularly jQuery
• A general love of Web Standards and doing things right
• Experience of mobile web development. Bonus points if you’ve worked on design solutions that you'd describe as responsive or adaptive
• Solid appreciation of design, UX, accessibility and usability (but you don't need to be a designer)
• Experience of SEO best practice and implementation

Nice to have:

• Source control experience, particularly Git
• Knowledge of server side programming including PHP or Ruby on Rails
