Bank Feeds - Barclays Business Accounts

Bank Feeds automatically import transactions from your bank account into your FreeAgent account.

For Barclays Business customers, Bank Feeds are provided through Barclays DataServices. We also provide Bank Feeds for other bank accounts.

We used to call our bank feeds "daily feeds," so if that's what you're looking for, you're in the right place!

Barclays DataServices

Barclays DataServices is a service for Barclays Business (but not currently Barclays Corporate) customers that automatically and securely transfers bank transaction information from Barclays to FreeAgent. As part of the set up process, FreeAgent will explain how to contact Barclays DataServices to securely authorize transaction import into FreeAgent.

Enabling Bank Feeds

Here’s how to enable Bank Feeds for your first Barclays Business account in FreeAgent.

Select Banking, then choose your Barclays Business account.

Select the Enable Bank Feed button. Note: make sure that you have entered a correct Barclays sort code for your bank account.

Guessing transaction explanations

If you select this option, FreeAgent will guess explanations for your transactions based on previously explained transactions. Transactions imported via Bank Feeds will be Marked for Review and require an extra step of approval.

Registering with Barclays DataServices

The next screen will prompt you to contact Barclays DataServices to authorize them to send transaction data into FreeAgent.

Click the Register with DataServices button to be taken to the Barclays DataServices website. To complete the registration process you will first need to be registered for Business Telephone Banking.

This then brings up a Barclays screen which you will need to complete.

Submit the details form on this page, making sure you agree to the DataServices Terms and Conditions.

The next page will display a Registration Token Number and the phone number you need to call to activate the transaction feed. You will need your Token Number handy along with your Bank Sort Code and Account Number when you call, and make sure you ask to be put through to “Barclays DataServices”.

Return to FreeAgent once you've registered with Barclays DataServices and you'll be informed that new transactions will start appearing in your account within 48 hours.

Dealing with multiple Barclays Business accounts

If you have more than one Barclays Business accounts you can enable Bank Feeds for all of these when you contact Barclays DataServices.

You will still need to activate these accounts individually with FreeAgent, but when you reach the below screen within FreeAgent, select the ‘No thanks, I'm already registered with Barclays DataServices!’ link to finish the setup process.

Importing historic transactions

Bank Feeds will only import transactions from the current day. It won't import historic transactions.

Historic transactions would need to be downloaded from online banking, uploaded into FreeAgent and explained.

Transaction dates

Any transactions that take place at the weekend, or on a Bank Holiday, will be dated the next working day, and will appear in FreeAgent the day after that.  For example, if you log into your bank account on Bank Holiday Monday 7th May and pay a bill to a supplier that day, Barclays will date that transaction Tuesday 8th, and you'll see it in FreeAgent on the Wednesday.

Disabling Bank Feeds for Barclays Business accounts

Navigate to the appropriate account in the Banking section.

Select 'More', and then 'Disable Bank Feed'.

disable_feed

Once you have confirmed that you want to disable the Bank Feed, you’ll be provided with a phone number for Barclays so that you can call them to disable DataServices.

Why do I need to call Barclays after I’ve disabled the Bank Feed?

When you disable the Bank Feed for your account, FreeAgent will no longer process any transaction data sent by Barclays DataServices. However, you should contact Barclays directly to tell them to stop sending data for your account.

What happens if I disable feeds by accident?

Don’t worry! As long as Barclays DataServices are still enabled for this account (which will be true unless you have called Barclays to cancel), you can enable your Bank Feed again. There is no need to call Barclays again to set up DataServices.

Be aware though, that since DataServices only sends transactions for the current day, your FreeAgent account may be missing some transactions that were sent while your Bank Feed was disabled. You’ll need to manually add any transactions that are missing.
