We’ve already looked at some great daily habits that super-productive people follow, but what about those habits you already have, but could actually be holding you back? Here are a few “good” habits that may actually be bad for business:
Have a quick look at your calendar - how many meetings are scheduled for the next few weeks? If you’ve got a few, that’s probably normal and even organised, right? This blog post on Medium makes the case that by planning your work around calendered meetings, you’re actually scheduling interruptions to your work instead of scheduling your actual work. Instead of thinking about adding a meeting to your diary, think about subtracting time from your working day in your calendar.
While we’re on the subject, you may want to rethink that whole “having a to-do list” thing as well. While you might think having a to-do list is super-organised, this analysis in the Harvard Business Review suggests that people tend to gravitate to the simpler tasks on a to-do list or concentrate on the super-urgent stuff, to the detriment of the rest of their work. Instead, try using a “done list”, so you can review your progress and decide on wider parameters for your future work.
