What is flexible furlough?
Definition of flexible furlough
Flexible furlough is the name given to the government initiative that enables businesses to bring furloughed workers back to work on a part-time basis while still claiming a percentage of these employees’ wages through the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.
Since 1st July 2020, furloughed workers - who were previously not allowed to do any work for their employer - have been able to return to work on a part-time basis and retain their furloughed worker status. These employees can return to work for any amount of time and can work any shift pattern.
Employers continue to pay their furloughed employees as normal for the hours they work but can claim furlough pay through the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme for hours that they do not work as a consequence of the coronavirus crisis.
