What is the Energy Bill Relief Scheme?

Definition of Energy Bill Relief Scheme

The Energy Bill Relief Scheme was a UK government initiative to help non-domestic energy customers pay their energy bills.

Under the scheme, the government provided a discount on the unit prices of energy that suppliers charge to businesses and other eligible energy customers in England, Scotland and Wales between 1st October 2022 and 31st March 2023. From 1st April 2023, the scheme was replaced by the Energy Bills Discount Scheme.

Who was eligible for the scheme?

The scheme was available to anyone in England, Scotland or Wales on a non-domestic energy contract, so long as they met the government’s eligibility criteria. This included businesses, voluntary organisations such as charities and public sector organisations such as schools and hospitals.

Business owners who work from home and pay for their energy through a domestic contract were not eligible for the Energy Bill Relief Scheme, but could receive support through the separate Energy Bills Support Scheme.
