What is an SIC code?

Definition of an SIC code

SIC is short for Standard Industry Classification. SIC codes are used by Companies House to determine what business activity, or activities, are carried out by limited companies and LLPs.

From 30th June, all new LLPs and limited companies must give Companies House at least one SIC code when they are formed. In the past, this did not have to be stated until the entity filed its first annual return.
