We have news for those keen beans among you who are already poised and ready to submit their next Self Assessment tax return - you can now file for 2025/26 directly to HMRC from FreeAgent.

If you’re a sole trader, limited company director or an unincorporated landlord already using FreeAgent, parts of your Self Assessment form can be auto-populated for you using the data that’s already in your account. All you’ll need to do is review the form, fill in a few details, then file your tax return to HMRC in just a few clicks!

The Self Assessment deadline isn’t until 31st January 2027, but if you’d like to get ahead of the game, you can log in to your FreeAgent account to access and file your tax return.

Are you saying goodbye to Self Assessment and hello to MTD for Income Tax?

If you’re amongst the first affected by Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax, you might want to file your 2025/26 Self Assessment early. If you can get your Self Assessment finished and ticked off before your first quarterly update deadline on 7th August, you’ll avoid overlapping Self Assessment and MTD.
